Kabul, August 20 : An Afghan woman journalist named Shabnam Dawran claims that she was barred from anchoring at a local TV station even after showing her ID card while her male colleagues were allowed, just a few days after the Taliban “vowed” to respect women’s rights and encouraged them to return to work and school.
Journalist Shabnam is seen wearing a hijab in a video that has gone viral, showing her office card and appealing to the world saying ” help us as our lives are under threat” . She states that women working at government organizations have been prevented even after the Taliban earlier had urged women to join the government.
Women in Afghanistan are now looking at an insecure future irrespective of some fearless female journalists interviewed members of the Taliban despite the visual threats.
