Lok Sabha election- India’s biggeest events in 2024 was the Lok Sabha election, in which the worls’s biggest democracy voted in a new government for the next five years. The election were held in seven phases and over 44 days from April 19 to June 1 to elect 543 members to the Lok Sabha.
State Elections- Apart from the general elections, several states also held assembly election. Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhans, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir had elections at various time during the year
India Becomes T20 world Champions- 2024 was the year India’s ICC Tournament jinx finally ended. Team India finally won ICC tournament after 12 years by Lifting the T20 World Cup in 2024. Rohit Sharma’s team, which has come agonisingly close to winning the ODI World Cup in 2023, went one step further and were crowned T20 world Champions.
Gukesh becomes the Youngest Chess World Champion- Indian teenager Gukesh Dommaraju made history on December 12 by becoming the youngest chess world champion, defeating defending champion Ding Liren of China in the dramatic final game of the world Championship.
RG Kar Incident women’s safety- The horrific case of rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kokata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital shook the nation. The case came to light on August 9 and outraged the nation.
Inauguration of Ram Mandir In Ayodhya- January 2024 also marked a momentous occasion in India’s cultural and religious landscape with the inauguration of thr grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Consecration ceremony, highlighting the temple’s significance as a symbol of India’s rich heritage and unity.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest- March 2024 witnessed a dramatic turn in Indian Politics with the rrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the then sitting Chief Minister of Delhi and national comvener of the Aam Aadmi party. Kejriwal was arrested after failing to respond to multiple summons related to a money laundering case tied to the Delhi excise policy.
India, China resolve long standing border issue- In 2024, India-China’s long- standing dispute over their 3,440km border saw some progress after four years. The agreement pertains to patrolling arrangements along their contested Himalayan border, particularly the Line of Actual Control, aimed at reducing tensions that had been running high, off and on, since 2024.
The year saw India lose several prominent personalities. These included industrialist Ratan Tata, musciaians Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ustad Rashid Khan, Singer Pankaj Udhas, noted filmmaker Shyam Benegal and Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
