Sikkim is celebrating it’s momentous milestone, “50th Statehood Day” with grand festivities unfolding at Paljor Stadium and Manan Kendra in Gangtok. The ceremonial celebrations commence with a majestic parade, paying homage to the venerable former Chief Minister L.D. Kazi through the symbolic lighting of butter lamps. Furthermore, the conclusion of the “Run for Unity” marathon, led by the intrepid Shanti Ram Nepal, will underscore the spirit of unity and solidarity.
Highlights include the launch of the Festivals of Sikkim magazine, the “Visit Sikkim” mobile app, AR games, and a time capsule carrying official messages from the Governor and Chief Minister.These endeavors will not only showcase Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage but also highlight its commitment to technological advancement and tourism promotion.
In honour of the golden jubilee, the government will introduce initiatives in mental health, tourism, wildlife conservation, and folk literature. Awards and grants will be distributed to sportspeople and sports associations.Later in the day, Manan Kendra will host a felicitation ceremony for distinguished citizens, followed by a documentary screening on Sikkim’s five-decade journey and a Broadway-style cultural performance. The day will conclude with the final match of the Sikkim Premier League at Paljor Stadium.
Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, in their official messages, praised Sikkim’s remarkable transformation and called for unity, cultural pride, and collective efforts toward a prosperous future.
