Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day tour of Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal on May 29, launching several key development projects. Although adverse weather prevented him from visiting Sikkim for its 50th statehood anniversary, he addressed the people virtually from Bagdogra. During the “Sikkim@50” event, Modi to inaugurate a 500-bed hospital in Namchi, a passenger ropeway in Gyalshing, and a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok. He will also release a commemorative coin and stamp to mark the occasion, celebrating Sikkim’s progress and rich heritage. Later today, at approximately 2:15 pm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal to lay the foundation stone for a significant City Gas Distribution project in the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. With an investment exceeding ₹1,010 crore, this ambitious project aims to supply piped natural gas to more than 2.5 lakh households and numerous businesses in the region. Additionally, it will establish 19 CNG stations to support clean fuel for vehicles. The initiative is expected to not only provide access to cleaner energy but also generate employment opportunities, contributing to the overall economic development and environmental sustainability of the area.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar on May 29-30 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several key infrastructure and development projects: He will inaugurate the new terminal building at Patna’s Jayprakash Narayan International Airport, built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore. The terminal can handle up to one crore passengers annually, significantly boosting the airport’s capacity and passenger amenities. Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the new civil enclave at Bihta airport near Patna, with a projected cost of over ₹1,410 crore. Bihta is emerging as an educational hub, housing IIT Patna and a planned NIT campus.
On May 30, in Karakat, the Prime Minister will launch and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹48,520 crore. Major highlights include the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-II) in Aurangabad district, costing nearly ₹29,930 crore. This power plant aims to enhance energy security, support industrial growth, and create jobs in Bihar and eastern India. Modi will inaugurate and initiate several road projects to improve connectivity, such as the widening and upgrading of highways including Patna–Arrah–Sasaram (NH-119A), Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata (NH-319B), and others. A new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli will also be constructed to facilitate trade and travel. Additional projects include the four-laning of the Patna–Gaya–Dobhi highway (NH-22) worth about ₹5,520 crore and a new rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj worth over ₹1,330 crore. These initiatives are set to strengthen Bihar’s infrastructure, boost regional connectivity, and support economic growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, On Friday at around 2:45 pm: He will inaugurate and lay the foundation for infrastructure and power projects worth approximately ₹20,900 crore. Major highlights include the opening of the Chunniganj to Kanpur Central Metro Rail Project (₹2,120 crore) with 14 stations—five underground—improving urban mobility, and the inauguration of a 660 MW extension at the Panki Thermal Power Project (₹8,300 crore) and three 660 MW units at the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project (₹9,330 crore). Modi will also inaugurate a 40 MLD sewage treatment plant to promote water reuse, new substations to boost power supply, two rail over bridges to ease traffic and facilitate coal and oil transport, and road projects enhancing industrial and defence corridor connectivity. Additionally, he will distribute certificates and cheques to beneficiaries of welfare schemes such as the PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna and National Livelihood Mission.
