The much-awaited Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project was inaugurated on Sunday by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kaliabor in Nagaon district, marking a major initiative towards environmentally sustainable infrastructure and improved connectivity in the state.
The project is estimated to more than Rs 6950 Cr, comprise of four lane corridors from Kaliabor to Numaligarh of NH-715 for over 86km in length, the 35km stretch that runs through the Kaziranga national park is the most defining feature of the project designed to allow free movement of animals and reducing incidents of human-wildlife conflicts along the busy highway.
PM highlights and explained the challenges faced by the wild life during floods in search of refuged to the higher ground and Kaziranga remains the only natural habitats of the one horned rhinoceros in the world and further acknowledge the government efforts to ensure smooth traffic while keeping the forest safe.
Under this vision a 90km corridor from Kaliabor to Numaligarh will be developed at the cost of about Rs 7000Cr, including the 35km elevated wildlife corridor. Vehicles will pass above while wildlife movement below will remain unhindered, widening of 30Km of the existing two lane into four lane highway and 21Km bypass passing through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat district too are included in the said project.
The upgraded is expected to enhance road connectivity to upper Assam, including key commercial and industrial hub such as Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. He also praises the people and the government of Assam for the achievement of zero incident of rhino poaching report in 2025 and applauded the state government for strengthened security arrangements, providing modern resources to the forest department, enhanced surveillance and increased of women’s participation through ‘Van Durga’.
Further, Prime Minister also narrates the importance of Kaziranga National Park , as it is not only a National Park, but the soul of Assam and a rare pearl of biodiversity in the country.
