Guwahati, 29 January: During the 17th Bihar assembly Term, Nitish Kumar became 3 times Chief Minister, for changing alliance from NDA to Mahagathbandhan vice-versa. After swearing 7th term CM of Bihar, he served as a common CM of BJP and JDU alliance NDA. Despite being in the alliance for a year, Kumar raised objections against BJP’s plans of creating a National Register of Citizens (NRC). He also alleged that BJP was ‘plotting’ to split the party. Then two years later the alliance eventually collapsed in 2022. He again joined Mahagathbandhan and he was made the 8th term Chief Minister of the state.

Nitish Kumar was at the forefront of forming the opposition bloc of INDIA in 2023. After 17 months with Mahagathbandhan, he again resigned from CM post and then returned to NDA and became 9th term Chief Minister of Bihar on January 28th 2024. Nitish Kumar is often criticised for frequently changing and dumping alliances throughout his political career for the sake of continuing as chief minister. This is the 4 times U- turned to politics for him since 2000. Opposition leader called him “Paltu Ram” meaning a person who frequently changes allegiance.
