Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is visiting Assam for two days starting today 7 November and continuing till 8 November. Her visit includes inauguration of two major projects in Guwahati and lay the foundation of greenfield state university at Gohpur.
ON 7 November
She will inaugurate the Guwahati Gateway Terminal, India’s first modern river ferry terminal on the Brahmaputra. The state of the art river terminal is located near Sukreswar ghat in Guwahati.
She will inaugurate the Guwahati riverfront project from Kachari Ghat to new DC bungalow. The newly beautified Brahmaputra riverfront at Uzaan bazar near Raj Bhavan will also be opened to the public ofering majestic view of the river.
She will inspect new semiconductor plant site in Jagiroad (Morigaon district) and interact with around 300 young entrepreneurs of Assam.
ON 8 NOVEMBER
She will lay the foundation stone of Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Bholaguri tea estate in Gohpur (Biswanath district). This university is being built over approx731 bighas and budgeted around 500 crores. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday flagged off 270 vehicles carrying Amrit Kalash filled with soil collected from every household of the state. Soil donated during the 2023 Amrit Kalash Yatra under PM Modi’s “Meri Maati Mera Desh” will be used for the Bhumi Pujan ceremony symbolizing collective aspirations of Assam’s people. The university is one of the most ambitious projects of the state offering advanced courses like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain making it a technical modern university.
