Inaugurated in March 2024 by, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee  Lumding civil hospital, which is located in the heart of  the town was built to provide  ordinary citizens to get a basic and dignified medical care in times of needs and was expected to ease the burden of thousands of families and stood as the symbol of progress in the area. Today it stood as a dark truth reminder of how a public institution can fail to those who need it the most. Within a year of inauguration the building begun to show alarming signs of decay with Deep cracks surfaced along its walls, corridors, and even near patient areas, the same picture can also be seen and equally dishearten in the internal condition of the building.

The lifts, installed for the ease of patients and staff, have remained out of service for months. As a result, seriously ill patients are being carried up via the stairs, often by the struggling family members or overworked staff. Scenes of this helplessness unfold every day. One such area is “At the X-ray department, Patients stand in long queues for hours, but the room remains locked, and no technician appears to operate the machine. Some patients return home untreated; others wait from morning to afternoon, hoping someone will eventually show up. The lack of accountability has turned a simple diagnostic step into a painful ordeal,” Said by the local.

These repeated failures have pushed the people of Lumding into deep distress. The hospital, meant to provide relief, has instead become a place of disappointment. Families feel abandoned by a system that appears to be running without supervision, discipline, or compassion. Corruption at the cost of people lives and development is not what the public elects their representative, but rather for the unheard voice to be heard and to uplift the underdeveloped to be developed. This type of govt. failure to its public is not a new and would neither be the last in the society. Therefore, mere acknowledgement of public grievances by their own authorities would not be suffice the hardship face by the people until a serious and commitment of real development and grass root understanding between the public and its representative is initiated and carried out.
