New Delhi, July 22 : Delhi Police on Wednesday authorized farmers to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Thursday demanding the abolishing of agricultural laws after the farmers pledged that they would not stride towards the Parliament which is presently in Monsoon session.

Security has been rigid at the Singhu border where farmers from different protest corners will assemble today and march towards Jantar Mantar. They are asked by the Disaster Management Authority to not exceed 200 persons for Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and 6 persons for Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) from 11 am upto 5pm daily.

The farmers have been granted permission by the Delhi government to hold protest with COVID appropriate behavior and social distancing. Only farmers having ID cards will be allowed at the protest site and eventually will be escorted on the buses by the Police while returning to the Singhu border.

Farmers have been protesting since November 26, 2020 at various frontiers of the national capital against the three newly enacted laws : Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act ; The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act ; and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act.
