Chhath Puja 2023: A great Indian religious festival Chhath Puja has begun today (November 17-20) with Nahay Khay (first phase of puja) as Chhath Maiyya devotees take a holy dip ahead of 36-hour onerous ‘Nirjala’ fast. The four-day festival of Chhath puja is largely celebrated in Bihar, UP, west Bengal, Jharkhand as well as in Nepal. On this festival, devotees worships to lord Surya ( sun god) and chhath Mata(lord surya’s sister) and seek their blessings. The festival begins after the Diwali Festival and celebrated twice a year in the months of Chaitra and Kartika.
Chhath Puja is mostly observed by women. The first day is known as Nahaay Khay. On this day, people take a holy bath and clean their entire house and their living premises then kharna and Lohanda (November 18) and Sandhya Ghaat (November 19), the festival concludes on the fourth day with Usha Ghaat (November 20) ,on this day the 36-hour fast is broken on this last day after offerings are made to the Sun God.
