The Maldives Association of Tourism (MATI) has condemned the derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India which were posted on social media by three Maldivian ministers who are now suspended. Maldivian President Mohammad Muizzu requested China to send more tourists to his country as the popularity of the ‘Boycott Maldives’ trend has adversely affected them.

“We will continue to strengthen and drive the economic industry and boost visitor numbers. The Government has plans to diversify the tourism product and offer new experiences. Initiatives include a top-tier school of hospitality and exploring sports” The Maldivian president said as he urged China to bolster the flow of its tourists to the Maldives. Maldivian government has also proposed to the Indian high commission that President Muizzu would like to visit India.
