Prathana Mahanta, April 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the voters of Guwahati for ”resounding win” in GMC polls. Remarkably, the BJP-AGP alliance won 58 out of total 60 wards (BJP has bagged 52 seats and AGP has bagged 6 seats), AJP won one seat, AAP won one seat. The Congress has failed to win even one seat thought the party had contested most of the wards.
Assam Chief Minister tweeted, ”I bow my head to the people of Guwahati for giving BJP and its allies a historic win in GMC elections. With this massive mandate, people have reaffirmed their faith in our development journey under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
It is noteworthy that Congress had won the GMC election in 2013 but later the BJP had formed the municipal board due to leadership failure of Congress. AAP’s Masuma Begum has secured Ward 42 which covers Hatigaon-Sijubari area. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote on Twitter, ”Congratulations Team Assam for making an entry in NE. Congrats Masuma Begum ji.” What does it signify? Will AAP be a factor in upcoming days in political scenario of the state?
