BCCI: Equal pay for men and women cricketers.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced ‘Pay Equity Policy’. In a historic move, BCCI on Thursday announced equal pay for all centrally contracted men and women Team India cricketers. This marks a historic day in Indian Women’s Cricket.

“I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket,” Shah tweeted.

“The women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). . Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind,” he added.

The journey of Indian’s Women Cricket has been tough and has been subject to discrimination, negligence as much as ex-BCCI President saying that women’s IPL is not possible due to no sponsors.The Indian women’s team recently won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh, beating Sri Lanka in the final at Sylhet by 8 wickets. They also won India’s first-ever medal in cricket at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham earlier this year. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lost to Australia in the final and got silver.

Earlier, New Zealand board had announced in July 2022 that both men and women cricketers will be subject to equal pay.
