Bengaluru, July 28 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Basavaraj Somappa Bommai pledged as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. He was directed by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at the swearing-in ceremony.
Quite soon after the election, the new CM on Tuesday said that he would strive to work for the welfare of the poor and would take all measures to fight COVID19 and floods in the state.
Former Karnataka Home Minister Bommai is a senior BJP leader and has earlier operated many portfolios including irrigation, law, Parliamentary affairs and legislature of Karnataka in the fourth Yediyurappa ministry. He has also served as Haveri and Udupi District Incharge Minister ; and as Minister for Water Resources and Cooperation between 2008 and 2013.
