Digital Desk, March 3: The government of Assam has added Rs 80 Lakh for restoration of one of the noted Assamese figures, Laxminath Bezbaruah’s residence at Nelson Mendela Chowk in Sambalpur city of Odhisa. It may be mentionable that Bezbaruah had stayed in Sambalpur for 20 years from 1917 until 1937. Furthermore, the building used by Bezbaruah as his office was being renovated by the Indian National Trust of Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
“The additional amount recently approved by the Assam government would be used for the refurbishment of Bezbaruah’s house. The amount of Rs 80 Lakh would be given after the Odhisa government provides the use certificate for the Rs 50 Lakh santioned in 2018,” Deepak Panda, a member of the INTACH Sambalpur branch stated. Panda added that the office building will be transformed into a hybrid museum/library after completing the restoration work.
