A major boost to the state organic agriculture product Atul Bora Agriculture Minister of Assam flagged off the first-ever export consignment of GI-tagged ginger from Karbi Anglong to London, on 1 march 2026.
The export of Karbi Anglong Ginger under the GI tag helps secure better market recognition, traceability, and premium pricing in international markets and also a great boost for the local farmer and production groups.
This move by the government will not only benefits the farmer but it will also help open new doors for opportunities and employment for the people of the region, and also make the state as one of the spice markets globally.
The flag-off ceremony was held at Krishi Bhawan in Guwahati, in the presence of senior agriculture department officials and stakeholders.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s broader push to promote Assam’s indigenous agricultural produce globally and integrate farmers with high-value export supply chains. The Officials said.
