Digital Desk, June 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party has chosen former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu, however, the Opposition chose former Cabinet Minister Yashwant Sinha as its candidate. The decision was taken by a parliamentary board meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ”The Presidential candidate should come from the eastern part of India and should be a woman tribal candidate’, ” BJP President J. P. Nadda.
Notably, Draupadi Murmu will be the first tribal woman to occupy top constitutional post if elected. Prime Minster Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, ”Draupadi Murmu was devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, downtrodden as well as the marginalised. She has rich administrative experience and had an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation.”
