Digital Desk, April 22: Voting is held for 57 out of 60 wards under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. The GMC election is being held after a gap of 9 years. The voting began at 7.30 AM. The voting will continue till 4.30 PM. 3 BJP candidates have already won uncontested. 157 candidates are in fray in 57 wards. It may be mentionable that EVMs are used in GMC election for the first time.

The counting of the voters will be held on April 24 at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. The result will be declared on the same day. Notably, the last elected GMC body was headed by Congress in 2013. BJP captured the council soon after they came to power in 2016. ”There is a hype created through social media by some new parties but such political romanticism is not enough to win an election. The BJP is the only party that now has strong organisations every corner of the city,” BJP President Bhabesh Kalita concluded.
