Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the newly-elected president of The Bharatiya Janata Party chief Nitin Nabin as “my boss in party matters” and calling the latter a “millennial” who will carry forward the legacy of the party.
Nitin Nabin 45 is the youngest leader to be elected as the BJP national head and is the 12th president of the party. His election came more than a month after he was declared the national working president of the BJP.
The election process was only a day-long affair. On Friday, the notification of schedule of events was announced and the electoral roll was published. Over 5700 voters were part of the roll. As per the schedule, on Monday, the nomination process was completed between 2pm to 4pm. Nabin, who was the minister for law and justice, urban development and housing in the Bihar government, on December 14.
He formally take charge on Tuesday, succeeding JP Nadda, who has led the party since 2020. Meanwhile, the Opposition questioned the election process for the post of party president and also claiming that the BJP was “playing Bigg Boss”.
The Prime Minister said that the responsibility of the BJP chief is not limited to the party itself, but it is also to secure coordination within the NDA. Calling the party a culture and a family, PM Modi said that the BJP provides a platform for debutants.
Later, the Prime Minister was seen feeding laddus to Nabin as he took charge as the BJP president at the party headquarters. Outgoing president Nadda, senior ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath, Nayab Saini, Pramod Sawant, Pema Khandu and Pushkar Singh Dhami were among those present on the occasion.
