Gauhati University an (MOU) Forges Strategic Partnership with (ASDMA to Bolster Disaster Resilience in Assam.

University has joined hands with Assam state Disaster Management Authority to Sharpen the State edge against Floods, landslides and lightning strikes. The partnership formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday will roll out a new certificate course in disaster communication and gender studies next year, training students to craft clear crisis messages and ensure women and children are not left behind in relief efforts.
Speaking at the event, Vice- chancellor Prof.Nanigopal Mahanta said,” We are happy to partner with ASDMA in advancing Knowledge and preparedness for a safer, more resilient Assam.” ASDMA CEO L . Sweety Changsan added that the tie- up will also boost youth volunteer programs like  a Aapda Mitr and integrate early- warning tech into high- risk zones.
The MoU is one of five signed by ASDMA in a single day. with others linking the authority to Geological Survey of India for landslide mapping, the National Institute of Hydrology for urban flood modeling in Barpeta, and Assam Engineering College for lightning- proof schools. Together, the initiatives aim to cut emergency response  time by up 30% and save lives in a state hit hard by climate extremes.
The event was attended by Shri Keshab Mahanta,HON Minister, Revenue and Disaster Management Dept , Shri L S Sweety Cangsang (AIS),ACS,RDMD &CEO,Asdma; Ms Meenakshi Das Nath, secy, RDMD and ADDL ECO<ASDMA; Shri Alakananda Medhi, ACS Dy secy, RDMA secretary & State Project coordinator, ASDMA; and MS mandira Buragohain, Project Officer, Knowledge Management and Climate Change ASDMA.
Prof Dhrubajyoti Saharia, Director, IQAC;GU; Law Officer Dipak Talukdar; Dr Chandan Kumar Goswami, HOD, Communication and Journalism; And Dr Bharati Bharali, Assistant Professor,Dept of Communication and Journalism were also present.
