In Guwahati, a water pipe burst occurred in the Kharghuli area, The incident occurred due to pressure surge, reportedly caused by a power interruption during preparations for the commissioning of a newly established surge protection tank at the Kharguli water treatment Plant. According to locals, the incidents occurred on Thursday morning. Houses were reportedly damaged due to broken pipeline. Housing and Urban affairs minister Jayanta Malla Baruah visited the site immediately. He ordered a scientific investigation and assured preventive measures would be implemented. The minister directed the district administration to assess damage and provide swift compensation to affected individuals. The Incident, which occurred around 10:15 am, caused extensive damage to over 10 homes, 7 vehicles, and multiple business establishments. This incident marks a repeat of a water pipeline bursting in the same area in may 2023, which caused significant damage.
The kharghuli pipeline burst is yet another reminder of consequences of mismanagement and corruption in Public infrastructure project. While the government promises action and compensation, the recurring nature of these incidents raises doubts about the effectiveness of these measures.
