Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, describing him as a ‘’respected economist’’ and a distinguished leader who left a lasting impact on India’s economic policies. PM Modi said, ‘’India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he became a respected economist and served in various government roles, including as finance Minister, shaping our economic policies. His interventions in Parliament were insightful, and as our Prime Minister, he made significant efforts to improve people’s lives’’.
Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92, due to age-related medical conditions as confirmed by AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr. Singh served two consecutive terms as Prime Minister, assuming office in 2004 after the congress Party’s victory over the Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections. He continued in office until 2014, before being succeeded by PM Narendra Modi.
