India crosses 100 cr COVID-19 vaccination landmark; the country scripts history

Saswati Sarma , New Delhi , October 21 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stated that “India scripts history” as the country has achieved 100 crore vaccination mark, and honoured the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and the cumulative spirit of 130 crore Indians. A total number of 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered until now to eligible beneficiaries, in accordance with CoWIN portal at 9:47 am today.

India’s vaccination drive surpassed most countries as it crosses the immunization mark , according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The top five states administering the highest number of vaccine doses are Uttar Pradesh, ollowed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

This milestone has been in about 10 months after the vaccination drive was launched on January 16, 2021 where it was opened initially for Health Care Workers (HCWs) and from February 2 , front line workers were made eligible for vaccination. The drive was enlarged from March 1 to include the persons above 60 years of age and those specified 20 comorbidities above 45 years of age from April 1. And finally from May 1 all individuals above 18 years of age were made eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
